In a world of rapid digital change, empowered consumers and information overload, it can often seem like there’s nothing less certain than what’s happening in digital marketing.

Business operators often rely on predictions in the digital marketing space and know it’s a dominating force, but do we really know where to start when it comes to applying the principles to an individual business?

With so many digital marketing trends out there, it’s often hard for the average business to grasp those that will make a real difference to their bottom-line.  DCI has put together the following infographic, which cuts through the blur of marketing hearsay and puts forward the most important marketing trends for 2013.

Not surprisingly mobile and social media top of the list of  trends for 2013,  however the prominence of content marketing in this list indicates an important new priority for digital marketers. The infographic highlights that 91% of B2B and 86% of B2C marketers are using content marketing, indicating businesses are investing in content to gain an edge over their competitors. Done properly, content marketing can position a brand as an industry thought leader, facilitate feedback and drive website traffic.

The other trends that the infographic highlights include:

  • Mobile marketing: Mobile generates 13% of global internet traffic. Capitalising on the consumer’s ‘right here, right now’ need for information could be a key differentiator for your brand
  • Social media: 87% of marketers are using social media to distribute content, compared with 74% in 2012. Improved targeting and user engagement are key benefits to your bottom line as consumers flock to social media channels
  • Author rank: Authors are ranked based on the engagement factors of their content. Create great content and earn your rank.
